Bearing the good fruit

“An apple a day keeps the doctor away” is a popular quote we use to show the health benefits of eating apples. Therefore when a farmer makes an apple orchard, he gives it his best to ensure that only good fruits are produced. During harvest, the bad apples are thrown away and the good ones are gathered for the market or to be eaten at home. No one desires to use money to buy bad apples. No way! The quality of care given to the orchard ultimately affects the nature of apples produced from the orchard.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. (Galatians 5:22‭-‬23) When we come to Christ, we are filled with the Holy Spirit to bear fruit that is identical to our new state. The book of Galatians lists the acts of the flesh and the fruit of the Spirit. As believers, our target is to bear the fruit of the Spirit. The fruit of the Spirit is neither banana nor apple. The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. The Bible is specific about fruit and not fruits. That means that the aforementioned are all products of one fruit. Believers are to bear the fruit altogether. None is exempted. If we enter the orchard of your life right now, what fruit will we find? The fruit of the Spirit or the acts of the flesh? You can only bear one category at a time. If you are still struggling to show love, joy, be a person of peace, show forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self- control, make it a point to speak with someone in church to help you. Don’t be shy. Speak with your pastor, elder, deacon, priest or whoever has a higher level of spiritual maturity. Develop a consistent Bible reading and studying lifestyle, pray always, meditate on God’s words and do not forsake church fellowship. Remember, Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit (Galatians 5:24‭-‬25).
