Christlikeness: Reflecting God’s glory

On my wedding day, I had a veil over my face. Before we exchanged the vows, the Pastor informed my husband to unveil me and verify if I am the one he wants to marry. Alluding to Jacob’s marriage to Leah, the Pastor said he wanted to be sure I am the right person before leading us to exchange our marital vows. This scenario happens in most Christian weddings in Africa. My experience of weddings in Europe was quite different. The bride had a veil but it didn’t cover the face. Moses had an encounter with the Lord and his face was so radiant that he had to put on a veil. The glory of God reflecting on Moses was much to behold. And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.(2 Corinthians 3:18) In the presence of God, Moses needed no veil but the Israelites could not look at Moses without the veil. Paul states that “We are not like Moses, who would put a veil over his face to prevent the Israelites from seeing the end of what was passing away. But their minds were made dull, for to this day the same veil remains when the old covenant is read. It has not been removed, because only in Christ is it taken away. But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away (2 Corinthians 3:13‭-‬14‭, ‬16). Christ has taken the veil from our faces. We can come before our great King as children without fear and shame. Now, “we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord” (2 Corinthians 3:18 KJV). The veil is taken off. We can enter boldly into the presence of God. The glory we have is not transient. It is permanent. We daily reflect the glory of the Lord. The Holy Spirit within us grants us that enablement. When I stand in the mirror of my faith, I should see a reflection of Jesus. My way of life and attitude should be a depiction of the Lord. There is no need for any veil. This transformation takes away the old man (Adamic nature) and gives us the new man (Christlikeness). This transformation is from glory to glory which comes from the Holy Spirit. You are a new man in Christ, like a bride is attached to the husband and they become one flesh, you are one with Christ. We should on a daily basis desire to move from the elementary things of our faith to a deeper reflection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. You are not a slave to sin, fear and guilt. You are a child of God and that should reflect in everything. Dear God, thank You for taking the veil away. Thank you for the finishing work of Christ that has translated us from slaves to children. We walk in our newness of life and reflect your ever-increasing glory on a daily basis. So help is God. Amen.
