Christlikeness: Reflecting God’s Son

Have you ever heard someone say that “God is God and man is man. We can never be able to reflect the image of God on earth.” I have heard people say this on several occasions. I don’t dispute them that we cannot become like God in relation to His deity and sovereignty. However, from Genesis to Revelation, scripture confirms that God has before the foundation of the world destined man to reflect the image of His Son. Christlikeness is symbolized all through scripture. In fact, this decision was made even before we were born. For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.(Romans 8:29) For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.(Romans 8:29) Until we come to the level of knowing that the standard for our lives is Jesus, we might be following others wrongly. Unfortunately, the message of Christlikeness is hardly communicated in Christian gatherings because of reasons such as; we can’t be like Christ, it is a boring lifestyle, even the leader (pastor) is not Christlike, etc. These excuses have caused many people to believe that we have been called to live as imitators of our preachers. Paul admonished the Corinthian church to “Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ” (1 Cor. 11:1). If the standard is not Christ, you are going nowhere. Christlikeness is never a boring lifestyle. It is the lifestyle that pleases God. In whatever you do at work, school, home, at the public places etc. ask yourself, “will this please the Lord?” If everyone at your office is being corrupt, if every married person around you is cheating on their spouses, if children you know are being disobedient etc. you do not conform to their lifestyles. You are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light (1 Peter 2:9). You have been called to reflect the image of Christ. You can never reflect God and Satan at the same time. To ponder on… If Jesus is my elder brother, do we have anything in common? Can men easily associate me with Jesus? Does my life reflect Christ? Do I really have many brothers and sisters in Christ? May these questions cause you to know more about Christ and to live the Christ way. Stay blessed and Christlike.
