One of the things I have come to learn in life is that being a worrier does not change anything about one’s current state but being a warrior makes all the difference. The English language makes ‘worrier’ and ‘warrior’ phonetically close but semantically, these two words are at the opposite ends of each other. A worrier worries a lot about almost everything. On the other hand a warrior refers to a brave or experienced soldier or fighter. Warriors do not worry much about opposition and attacks, they know how to navigate through it. This life is full of challenges and it is easier to become a worrier other than a warrior. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. (Matthew 6:33) Food, clothing, shelter, peace, stability etc. can permanently cause us to live in constant worry. Jesus said “do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?” (Matthew 6:25). God’s will for our lives is not to make us worriers. God wants us to seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all ‘these things’ will be given to you as well (Matthew 6:33). These things refer to the things that give us sleepless nights, makes us afraid and causes us to worry. “Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?” (Matthew 6:27). We should rather desire to seek first God’s kingdom and His righteousness. We should war with our flesh to overcome the evil desires. We should know the devices of the devil so that as warriors we should be able to withstand the tactics of the devil. No warrior goes to the battle ground without an armour. We should put on the whole armour of God so that we may be able to stand the missiles of the enemy. Ephesians 6: 11-19 lists the armour we need as believers. “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things” (Philippians 4:8). Make a list of all the things that cause you to worry and make a list of verses that speak to that situation. Remember, we should speak faith over fear. God is surely with us.
