How to get life in its totality (Matthew 4)

The words of Jesus are unmatched. No other words of anyone compares to the words of Jesus. As you read and reflect on the statements made by Jesus, it is amazing how much life is contained in every word spoken by Jesus.

We continue the series of discussions on the Words of Jesus. Today’s post focuses on the temptation of Jesus in Matthew 4. The focus of this post is to take a look at Jesus' statements in Matthew 4:4.

Matthew 4:4 “But He answered and said “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God”

Jesus had just ended His fast for 40 days and 40 nights and as expected he was hungry. Satan attempts to capitalize on this and tempts Jesus to prove His sonship by turning stone to bread. Jesus' response to this temptation teaches us the following

Observation

It is not only physical food that humans need to survive. More than food, we also need the Word of God. To continue feeding your body with food and ignoring your intake of the word of God means you are depriving yourself of life.

Also note that Jesus is not saying eating is unimportant or not necessary.

Application

Commit to a daily intake of the Word of God.

Everyday a word from Jesus must enter into your heart.
