Although I am not an athlete, nor do I have the skills for that, I am very interested in the Olympic games. In fact, I love the competition energy and the zeal of demonstrating what one is able to do. Most importantly, I love to watch the competitors receive their medals. While some athletes get so decorated with all sorts of medals, some get none. It is really not a good feeling to train for years and not to get any medal. But, imagine the athletes who leave the Olympic games with all sorts of medals. Their joy is full. Our journey as believers is not just a circle without rewards. In fact, there are categories of rewards that will be given to us. “Look, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to each person according to what they have done.(Revelation 22:12) Jesus Himself told John that, “Look, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to each person according to what they have done” (Revelation 22:12). The Lord will reward us based on what we have done. Remember, our salvation is not based on our works. We are saved by faith through grace (Ephesians 2:8-8). However, we have been saved to do good work. Paul in the same letter to the Ephesus church states that, “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do” (Ephesians 2:10). It is great to be a believer, but it is greater if your faith influences your community and the people around you. Understanding that each of us will receive rewards based on what we have done should spur us on to good works. No athlete joins the race to be last. They go through strict training so that they win a crown. As we have come to believe in the Lord, we should aim to do the works of the one who has called us. Nothing is little and nothing is insignificant. Do not belittle yourself and get involved in something. Join the evangelism ministry, the children ministry, the women’s ministry, the men’s ministry, the teens and youth ministry etc. and be involved in the work of God. Be ready to support the leadership of the church and make time for the work of God. Be intentional about it and you shall be rewarded! If Jesus should come today, what good works will you be rewarded for?
