Parousia: Let us spur one another toward love and good deeds.

If there is one thing the church in the West cannot get rid of quickly is asynchronous meeting (online & in-person at the same time). There are people who still do not feel “safe” to go to church in-person or on site and on a day to day basis, people are still getting infected with COVID-19 and have to isolate themselves. The church has to strategize to make sure that none miss the opportunity to take part in the fellowship of the brothers and sisters. It is easier to check on one another if we meet in-person at our different churches. However, it is more difficult to check on one another if we meet virtually. How do we fellowship (koinonia) with one another when we don’t see each other? How do we encourage one another when we are meeting virtually? And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.(Hebrews 10:24‭-‬25) The coming of the Lord is at hand and we need to spur one another on toward love and good deeds. The author of Hebrew encourages the reader not to give up meeting together. Whether in-person or virtual, we should always have fellowship together. Further, we need to check up on one another. The reason for having small groups or cells in a church is to make each person accountable to another person. Remember that we are the body of Christ and each person plays a vital role in the complete functioning of the body (1 Corinthians 12:12-27). One thing we should know is that we are each other’s keeper and we should not live like we are on our own. There are believers who are currently struggling with many things but because of asynchronous meetings, they are unable to meet another believer and be refreshed. Today, if God lays someone in the church on your heart, pray for them and call them to find out how they are doing. There are people with diverse needs and may not be able to open up to the whole church, but if someone should reach out to them, they will be more comfortable to share. Let us be intentional on spurring one another towards love and good deeds. In a world broken by pandemic, it is more important to encourage one another and continue meeting together (asynchronous). Your word of encouragement, your presence, your love can snatch a believer from the kingdom of darkness to the kingdom of light. “Look, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to each person according to what they have done.”(Revelation 22:12) As we see the Day approaching (Parousia), we should not give up on doing good, spurring one another in love and encouraging our brothers and sisters.
