Parousia: The second coming of Jesus Christ

Few years ago, my church had an evangelism crusade in the town I grew up in. At the crusade, the message was about life after death and the second coming of Jesus Christ. I was still a young child with very little biblical knowledge. However, I remember that the message of the night hit me so strongly that when the altar call was done, I went forward to accept Jesus. A member of the church came to pull me from the crowd and informed me that I am already a Christian so I do not need to accept Jesus. I couldn’t sleep that night, I was so sure that if Jesus returned that night, He would have left me behind. However, this strange church member denied me the opportunity of receiving Jesus that night. So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him. (Matthew 24:44) The second coming of Jesus Christ (Parousia) is expected by Christians all over the world. I have heard stories of people complaining about the fact that the return of Jesus has taken too long. Others have lost hope in His second coming because of the things happening in the world. Irrespective of your stance on this, know that Jesus will return someday for His church. Even if He tarries, He will surely come. At the moment, what we need to do is to be expectant all the time because the Son of Man will come at an hour you do not expect Him. Yes, He is coming soon and He will reward each person according to what they have done (Rev. 2:22). Are you ready? There are many people in the church who have not made a personal decisions for God. For example, children born into the church are easily taken for granted as believers. Some of these children grow up as adults with very little biblical knowledge. They are not discipled like the way new converts are discipled and everyone takes it for granted that they are born in the church. Remember, being born in the church doesn’t make you born again. For me, after I was denied the opportunity of giving my life to Christ, it took me a couple of years to finally accept Jesus as my Lord and Saviour. Imagine if I had left the church before then. Jesus is coming soon and the church of God should be made ready. None should be left out. If we don’t start talking to the children about salvation, the devil is busily cooking a distorted story to deliver to them. While we have the opportunity, we should take advantage of it and lead our children to faith. Have you started the salvation conversation with the children around you?
