She brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes.

After going through delivery twice, I don’t think it will be a good idea to give birth assisted by my husby alone. None of my delivery came easily and imagine being left with my husby alone to assist? He was more concerned about the labour than I was. I am sure he would have been too scared and would have gone on his own labour. This alone gives me chills when I think about the birth of Jesus. Mary, a teenage girl who has not experienced childbirth before and Joseph, who was not a birth attendant were left with a great task of welcoming the son of God in a manger. Wait a minute! God chose a manger as the birthplace for His one and only son? And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.(Luke 2:7 KJV) Nativity is not another Christmas decoration. The story of the baby born in the manger is the real reason for Christmas. Santa Claus and his reindeers, Grinch, and all the other fictional Christmas characters joined the story for business purposes. They had never been involved and they will never be the reason for Christmas. Jesus is the reason for the season. The Son of God was born in a manger because there was no room in the guest house for them. He was wrapped in swaddling clothes and placed in a manger. In ancient times, Levitical shepherds wrapped newborn sacrificial lambs in swaddling clothes to avoid blemish. No wonder John proclaimed “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! (John 1:29). Jesus was born in a manger because He was God’s sacrificial lamb to replace the work of the Levitical shepherds who watched over sacrificial lambs. No wonder the message first went to the shepherds on the field. The shepherds knew the significance of wrapping a newborn sacrificial lamb in swaddling clothes. “When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them” (Luke 2:17‭-‬18). Go, tell it on the mountain Over the hills and everywhere Go, tell it on the mountain That Jesus Christ is born Down in a lowly manger Our humble Christ was born And brought us all salvation That blessed Christmas morn Merry Christmas and a Blessed New year!
