A helmet is a protective hat that is worn as a safety or defensive armoury to protect the head from injury. The head of every person needs to be protected against external attacks. If any hard object falls on a person’s head, the result can be fatal. In our battle with the kingdom of darkness, the helmet covering our heads is salvation. In fact, the devil will battle with you because you are outside of his kingdom and he wants you to lose your salvation. Our salvation is the assurance that Christ’s atoning death, resurrection and ascension has purchased for us an eternal glory and we have passed from the kingdom of darkness to the kingdom of light. Knowledge of this defines our battle strategy. Take the helmet of salvation ( Ephesians 6:17a) Paul admonished the church to take the helmet of salvation and this is a conscious defensive strategy. Many believers do not have the assurance of their salvation. Their heads are unsafe. The covering is what gives us the urgency to press on. If your mind’s made up about your salvation, you do not turn back to the things of the past. But, if you are unsure about your salvation, your head is not safe. The devil can throw millstone on your head. Like the way he confused Eve in the Garden of Eden. He will ask you, “Are you really sure you are saved?”,”Do you think God wants the best for you?” etc. If your mindset is not that of a saved believer, these millstones of confusion will start to sway you from left to right. If the devil reminds of Romans 3: 23 (for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God) just acknowledge that and remind him of Romans 6:23 (For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord). Our salvation is a gift of God. Romans 5:8 states that “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Our salvation is believing is receiving! Romans 10:9-10 states that “If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.” If you have confessed Jesus as your Lord and Saviour, know that God has written your name in His book of Life. You have to consciously live in accordance with His word attaining to the image of His Son. Christlikeness is God’s priority. Is your head safe from the millstones of the enemy?
