The Spirit of God is timeless

This week is very significant in the history of the church of God. All over the world, believers will be commemorating the outpouring of the Holy Spirit that started the church after the death and resurrection of Jesus. This incident happened on the day of the Jewish festival of Pentecost. The Holy Spirit’s role in our churches cannot be overemphasized. It is important to note that the Holy Spirit, who is the third person in the Trinity, has been there even before time began. In another blog, we shall consider the personality of the Holy Spirit. Remember that He is God and He is omniscient, omnipotent and omnipresent.  Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.(Genesis 1:2) In the beginning, God (Elohim) made the heavens and the earth. The Holy Spirit was involved in creation, and in the state of voidness, emptiness, formlessness, the Holy Spirit  was still at work hovering over the waters. He was involved in the birth, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Angel Gabriel told Mary that, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.”(Luke 1:35). He was revealed in the baptism of Jesus (Matt. 3:16), and throughout the ministry of Jesus, the Holy Spirit was also at work.  Jesus while on earth promised the disciples of the presence of the Holy Spirit; “But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.” (John 14:26). The church is operating in the power of the Holy Spirit and Pentecost day is no longer considered as a Jewish festival but the day that the church received power from on high to go out and reveal the kingdom of God to all people. Many churches have activities to celebrate Pentecost and we should take advantage to learn about the Holy Spirit and most importantly, receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit (if we have not been baptized by Him yet).  Have a blessed Pentecost week. May we encounter the outpour of His Spirit.
