If anyone should ask me how I know that my mother is my mother, my answer is simple: ” I just know that she is my mother and I do not have any doubts about it.” I am sure we all have simiy responses if asked similar questions. Knowing that our parents are our parents does not need scientific evidence to prove it. Whether you are a biological child, adopted child, foster child, step-child or whatever category you may want to add, you still know that your parents are your parents. Knowledge of this defines your relationship and ultimately your bond between them. However, if someone asks “how do you know that you are a child of God”, what will be your response? So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith (Galatians 3:26) It is easy to reply that you are a child of God because you are a believer. John states that, “Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God” (John 1:12). Our sonship/child status in God is not defined on biological lines but on spiritual terms. Our faith in Christ defines our sonship in God. Paul told the Galatian church and obviously us that, “in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith” (Galatians 3:26). We share a mutual faith and that is what makes us children of God. This faith we have is determined by God’s ultimate plan to have all men become His children. We are children of God by faith and knowledge of this affects our lifestyles. Paul stressed on the fact we were held under the law before we came to faith in Christ. The law was our guardian teacher until we were justified by faith. The big deal is that, “now that this faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian. So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.” (Galatians 3:25-29). In Christ, we have a continental family with brothers and sisters all over the world who share the same faith with us. God’s children are not differentiated on racial grounds, on class systems (low/middle/high), or based on gender. We are all one and we share the same promises. We are all Abraham’s seed! Let us therefore be kind to one another, love our brothers and sisters, and bear each other’s burdens. We are children of the same Father!
