We are created in the image of God… we have to take care of the other creation.

Mankind is the peak of God’s creation. Of all the created things, mankind was the only creation made in the image of man. God did not make the vegetations, the waters and the animals in His image. Only man reflects the image of God. “God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”(Genesis 1:28). This command was only given to mankind. In case you have been told by someone how insignificant you are, tell them that you are God’s masterpiece. So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. (Genesis 1:27) Being created in the image of God gives mankind a responsibility of taking care of the other creation. Mankind is the custodian of God’s creation and we need to take good care of the things entrusted to us. We have been given the priority to ensure a sustainable world. If we are only concerned with what we eat for now, we might end up not considering the sustainability of the other creation. As we cut trees, we should think of replacement (tree planting) and for those who consume animal-based food, we should take good care of these animals for sustainable reproduction. The kind of gases we release into the atmosphere in our bid to develop science and technology should not be harmful to kill other living things. Imagine inhaling bad air for a long time. The lungs can become weak and this can lead to death. God has given mankind the authority to take care of this world and that includes basic environmental hygiene. We are expected to be mindful of anything that causes pollution of the air, water, land etc. Until the second coming of Christ and until one is called into glory, the earth remains our home. Let’s take good care of what God has entrusted into our hands. To ponder… How do you take care of the things around you? Are you conscious of keeping your environment clean? What can you do to make the world safe for the other created things? Remember, that piece of plastic that finds it was into the ocean can kill more fishes and will remain in the ocean as long as it can. Put your trash in the bin… it is godly to be clean😊 Happy New Year
